"I had an fantastic morning that opened my eyes to how important interprofessional work is, and what feats can be accomplished when a team of passionate, giving people come together to serve others for the benefit of the patient's health. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support, education, and friendliness that I received this morning. I think that this work is something that is very special. Watching all of the staff and students work together today to care for these children, and educate the parents about caring for their children, was a great opportunity to see interprofessional collaboration in action."
"I had an amazing morning at the IOCP clinic today as it was a great learning atmosphere that has much to offer the dental students, medical and dental residents, and volunteers involved. Everyone that I met was extremely helpful and welcoming! Dr. Ramos even took some time to show me the "Smiles for Life" app which helped me learn which questions are important to ask patients when conducting a risk assessment. The app also has many other tools such the diagnostic modules of various oral lesions and oral emergencies. I would definitely love to spend some time at IOCP again as it has exposed me to pediatric dentistry which I am now more interested in."
SHPEP Group Project
A group project required students to develop a customized outreach program that would help elevate a specific health disparity or problem in an underserved community in the United States. Each project includes a detailed description of the program such as community demographics, list of community partners or organizations involved, plan of action, evaluations, etc.
